The Ordinariate

This parish is served by a priest of the Ordinariate.

There are around 100 priests and deacons of the Ordinariate serving in roles in parishes in England and Wales. Nine priests and one permanent deacon serve in the Diocese of Brentwood. In six parishes of the diocese an Ordinariate Priest is the parish priest.

Lay members of the Ordinariate worship with the congregation in our three centres and in Clacton. On the third Sunday of the month they gather together for mass at 4pm at SJP. Everyone is welcome at this mass and any Catholic can fulfil their Sunday obligation at this mass.

The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham was established in 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI to allow Anglicans to enter into the full communion of the Catholic Church whilst retaining much of their heritage and traditions. It now has the full support and blessing of Pope Francis.

We exist to promote the unity of all Christians with the Apostolic See, and faithfully to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the rich treasures of our traditions.

The Ordinariate meets for mass at St. John Payne church on the third Sunday of each month.
