This is the website of St John Payne Catholic Church, Greenstead, Colchester, a parish of the Diocese of Brentwood. For data protection law, parishes are not separate organisations: the Diocese, through its corporate trustee, the Brentwood Roman Catholic Diocese Trustee, is the Data Controller for personal information handled by the parish. The Diocese’s Privacy Notice (PDF) is the full statement of what personal data is held, why, for how long, and your rights. This page explains what applies to this website in particular.
Visiting this website
The public pages of this site do not set cookies, so there is no cookie banner. We do not use Google Analytics or any other service that tracks visitors from page to page.
Our web host keeps routine server logs, including IP addresses, for a short time for security and to keep the site running. They are not used to identify individual visitors.
Getting in touch
If you phone, WhatsApp or email the parish, or use the contact form on this site, we use your details to reply to you and deal with your enquiry. They are handled as described in the Diocesan Privacy Notice and are not sold or shared outside the Diocese, except where the law or safeguarding requires it.
Third-party content and links
- Map. The map on the Contact page loads only when you press “Show the map”. It is then provided by Google, which may set cookies and receive your IP address. You can use the “Open in Google Maps” link, or ignore the map.
- Donations. The Donate page links to Dona, a separate service that processes gifts. What you enter there is handled by Dona under its own privacy policy, not by this website.
- Social media and WhatsApp. Links to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
- Newsletters. Weekly newsletters are PDF files hosted on this site. Please tell the parish if your name or photograph appears in one and you would like it removed from the online copy.
Parish volunteers who log in
A few volunteers have accounts to edit their group’s page. We store their name, email address and login details, and WordPress sets the cookies needed to keep them signed in. The account is deleted when it is no longer needed.
Your rights and who to contact
